Thetford Rovers Fc

In 1885 Thetford Rovers were formed playing there football on Melford Common in colours of claret and blue. It is not known when the club folded but the club has a cup dated 1904, however in 1950-51 a group of gentleman namely G.Angus, P.Fayers, H.Reeve, L.Orbell, Curly Robinson, Mr Kidney, met to reform the club. Two teams were formed the 1^st entered the South Norfolk League Division 2 and the reserve team just playing friendly’s. After two seasons the 1^st team left to join the Bury and District League with the reserves joining the same league 2 seasons later.

In 1966 Rovers applied and were accepted in the newly formed 4^th division, playing there games at Thetford Recreation Ground, the reserves followed in 1967 and ‘A’ team was formed joining the Bury and District League and later the Dereham and District League before later then joining the Central and South Norfolk League in the ensuing years a considerable amount of success was achieved by all three sides before the club went into free fall eventually dropping to Division 5 of the Anglia Combination League. After that league was reorganised the ’A’ team and reserves sides were dropped, But then recently in 2007 the reserves were reformed and entered into the Crown Fire Central and South Norfolk League.

Since 2005 the club has taken on a new lease of life and things are taking an upward spiral, the club on moving back to Euston Park after 5 years at East Harling are on a high with several young players backed by a good committee and sponsors.
